Relax and enjoy a bygone era at our Big Island B&B, a time when warm trade winds, the sweet smell of fresh plumeria leis and the distant sounds of native ukuleles graced the islands. 1940’s Hawai'i is yours to experience among our one acre of lush tropical paradise. Coconut Cottage B&B is surrounded by Hawaiian palms and fruit trees, an abundance of native flowers, an ancient lava tree, and a waterfall.

Coconut Cottage Bed & Breakfast, a licensed and permitted establishment, on the Big Island of Hawai'i is centrally located between Hilo and Volcanoes National Park in the heart of the tropical Puna district in Leilani Estates. Just seven miles from a live lava flow, where one can watch the red lava stream down the mountain side and the fiery glow of the billowing volcanic gases light up the night sky. We are minutes from the beautiful black sand beaches and turquoise blue waters of Kehena Beach with an abundance of sea turtles and dolphins. Enjoy hiking, mountain biking, and eco-tours at many of the scenic trails nearby our Big Island Hawai'i B&B. Or relax with the old Big Island Hawai'i feel in the town of Hilo. We are just minutes from the quaint alternative village of Pahoa with its excellent restaurants and shops. Two miles from Lava Tree State Park and a close to incredible surfing, world-class snorkeling, thermal hot pools, and natural steam vent caves. Volcanoes National Park, historic Hilo Town and breathtaking waterfalls are within 25 miles of our rural Big Island Hawai'i retreat.

Daily gourmet breakfast is served featuring 100% Kona coffee, exotic tropical fruits, homemade breads, yogurt and more on our large Tommy Bahama inspired bamboo lanai with views of our secluded tropical gardens.

September 8-10 2014 Thank you for your warm welcome and the useful trip explanations. We enjoyed your hospitality from the first moment. Your dog is lovely. In the evening the coquis sing in the garden. I could take photos forever. I love this beautiful place. The room was very nice and warm, so we felt the “spirit". Beautiful breakfast, thanks for everything – Danke! We really enjoyed and hope to return one day.

September 7-9 2014 Thank you Scott and Karen for the lovely respite from our “roughing it” at our construction site. We REALLY needed some R&R and certainly found it at Coconut Cottage. Mahalo!

July 28 - August 5, 2014 Dear Karen and Scott, It is an honor for us to be the first ones to use the guest book of the Royal Hibiscus Room. We are sad we must leave today for our next stop in Oahu. From the very first moment of our arrival here we got a warm welcome and felt at home right away. Thanks to Karen and Scott we had a wonderful week here. This place is like paradise. Karen’s breakfasts are a sheer marvel. We will miss them, so beautifully arranged and delicious. Both Karen and Scott had always time for a chat about the island, its history, places to visit, good restaurants, etc. We really enjoyed and maybe will return one day. Thanks so much. July 17, 2014 “Thank you!”

Thank you, Jerry and Brian, for the wonderful experience! The breakfasts were delicious, and we appreciated your help with directions and recommendations on various activities. FYI, we loved the Bishop Museum between our flights.

July 14, 2014 “wonderful place to stay”

after some brief panic set off by some of the recent reviews describing last minute cancelled reservations, we were reassured by the owner that everything was under control - evidently a problem with the (now former) managers. When we arrived the owners were there, and had clearly been working hard to get things in shape. We stayed in the separate cottage, and loved it. The yard is a beautiful tropical garden and the setting was quiet and relaxing. And the breakfasts were delicious! The owners were in the process of hiring new managers and were committed to keeping close watch after their bad experience with the previous ones, so I would be comfortable recommending the B&B for future stays. Stayed July 2014, traveled as a couple.
