Meet Jerry and Todd, your innkeepers

It's All About Location!

New Coconut Cottage Innkeepers!

As of August 2014, we are very pleased to welcome brand new innkeepers Scott & Karen to Coconut Cottage Bed & Breakfast!  Come visit soon and you will see and feel the spirit of "Aloha."

Scott and Karen moved to Pahoa a year ago from Prescott, Arizona after numerous visits to family and friends on the Big Island. They are "empty nesters" with their children starting families of their own.

Karen brings more than three decades of experience in all aspects of the food and beverage industry, and is quite the gardener—she is also an accomplished glass artisan. Karen works in both the kiln fired glass and lamp work (torch) mediums. Her work is shown in galleries here in Hawaii, and on the mainland. Her glass studio will be up and running on premises soon with studio tours to be scheduled.

As for Scott, he has an extensive background in all phases of hotel operations along with several years bartending and bar managing. This enables him to be a qualified assistant to Karen in the kitchen.  In order to keep this stupendous property looking beautiful, he comes with more than 30 years’ experience in the landscape and building maintenance fields.

They come equipped with strong capabilities and a great desire to make your stay at Coconut Cottage Bed & Breakfast a remarkable and memorable experience.

Our Big Island Bed & Breakfast is a licensed and permitted Hawaii B&B and is centrally located between Hilo and Volcanoes National Park in the heart of the tropical Puna district in Leilani Estates near the world famous live lava flow. We are three miles from the quaint village of Old Town Pahoa with its excellent restaurants and shops. In 1960 Pahoa became the anthurium and papaya capital of the world. Thermal hot pools, surfing, and world-class snorkeling are just a few miles away. We are also just minutes from Kehena Beach, where one can enjoy the breathtaking black sand beaches and turquoise blue ocean. This beautiful beach is often frequented by dolphins, turtles and seasonal whales. Another nearby wonder not to be missed are the natural steam vent caves. You can also take a coastal drive along the Red Road, considered the most beautiful and scenic drive on all of the islands. One can also enjoy hiking, mountain biking and eco-tours at several nearby scenic trails. Volcanoes National Park, historic Hilo town and spectacular waterfalls are all within 20 miles of our rural peaceful retreat.

Hawaiian Hospitality, Big Island Style

Your comfort and enjoyment during your stay at our Big Island Hawaii B&B is of utmost importance to us. We strive to make your Hawaiian vacation as memorable and relaxing as possible. We pay special attention to all the details: Comfortable beds, plush towels, and the finest of bed linens. On special occasions, enjoy evening pupus (Hawaiian appetizers) and tropical drinks on our beautiful lanai at sunset. Soak in the spa at the end of the day dreaming about re-entering the world with a renewed sense of being.

"The breakfast was among the best we have ever had. Their hospitality is truly a cut above any other place we've stayed at."
Steven and Roxanne Smith, Winter Park, FL

As you walk through the front door of our Big Island Hawaii Bed and Breakfast, you will experience the feeling of a bygone era. Vintage style Hawaiian island furnishings inspired by Tommy Bahama create a relaxed island elegance. From our Bali imported hand carved beds, to our open air bamboo lanai, and to our koa wood kitchen counter, the Coconut Cottage truly evokes an island ambiance you will remember long after your visit with us.

A tasty island breakfast is served daily on our peaceful lanai that overlooks the botanical grounds. Enjoy a variety of fresh Hawaiian fruits and a gourmet island-style breakfast. Fresh juices, milk, tea and 100% Kona coffee complete your selection.

"The island breakfasts were delicious and the beautiful lanai setting really made everything perfect."

Hawaiian Botanical Gardens

Our grounds are covered by tropical plants, colorful Hawaiian flowers, numerous fruit trees and a variety of palm trees. Take a stroll through the gardens and you will encounter literally hundreds of anthuriums, rare jade plants, orchids, and hibiscus plants—all while enjoying the plumeria scented air. Lush lawns and lava rock planters cover most of the estate and an actual lava tree formation at the entrance to the property is a favorite among guests.

"The private grounds and beautiful gardens make you forget about everyday life. We felt rejuvenated after our beautiful island vacation."
Joanne Hill, Laguna Beach, CA

After a busy day exploring the breathtaking wonders of the island relax your senses in our Castaway Spa. Our hot tub is nestled in the middle of our botanical estate where you can take time to star gaze under the bright island moon. Plush towels and white waffle weave cotton spa robes are yours to enjoy during your stay.

The Lava Lounge

Even though there are an abundance of activities to do on the Big Island, there is always that evening of down time. After you’ve relaxed your senses in our Castaway Spa, why not enjoy a good movie back in the comfort of your room. Our Lava Lounge is our activity room. Here you will find our extensive DVD library which consists of over 500 movies from every type of genre imaginable. We also have many books, games and CD’s to borrow.
